Ooredoo’s Nationwide Submarine Cable has successfully been connected to its second landing station in G.dh Thinadhoo today.
The company began the deployment of its Nationwide Undersea Cable across the Maldives on 8th December 2016, with the cable being connected to its first landing station in Addu on the same day.
Ooredoo initiated the $25,000,000 Nationwide Submarine Cable Project after receiving its ISP license in the Maldives last year. The submarine cable will stretch across 1,200 km from north to south of Maldives with six landing stations in S.Hithadhoo, G.dh. Thinadhoo, K. Hulhumale’ M. Kolhufushi, B. Eydhafushi, and H.dh Kulhudhuffushi.
The nationwide cable project is expected go live in January 2017, and will allow Ooredoo to greatly enhance quality of services and provide high speed internet services to all islands and resorts across the Maldives.
The project aims to support the needs of local communities and businesses in fully utilising the benefits of the digital ages such as access to telemedicine, teleworking, online learning, and e-government services.

Successful Initial Listing Ahead of Offer to Local and International Investors
Ooredoo Maldives Plc. has today announced its plan to offer a portion of its equity for sale to local and international investors, following its initial listing on the Maldives Stock Exchange. The announcement was made today at a special ceremony held at Dharubaaruge, attended by key dignitaries from the Government of Maldives and Ooredoo Group including the Minister of Economic Development, Mr Mohamed Saeed; Chairman of Ooredoo Group, H.E. Ooredoo Maldives Plc. plans to offer the securities through an Initial Public Offering (IPO) as soon as it completes the requirements and procedures for a Public Issue as set out in the offering rules of the Maldives Stock Exchange. The Offer will be open to the Maldivian public, local and international institutional investors.
